I know you're sitting on the edge of your chair
wondering if we are alive...
It's been a while!
We've just been loving our summer to pieces,
we can't seem to get enough in!
Neal started school Aug. 27th,
so the previous weekend we had our final
summer bash: camping! (finally)
We went to an area on the St. Croix river
called Sandrock Cliffs.
It was a hike-in campsite, and
a hole in the ground potty.
Genevieve was terrified.
We were prepared to pay for a campground
and to have to buy firewood--
but we didn't have to do either!
And we were the only ones in the entire camping area.
awesome.
Apparently the campsites labelled "primitive"
on the internet are just our type!
Our hike on Friday took us on a small arm of the St. Croix
at the base of the sandrock cliffs,
there wasn't any water since it's so late in the summer.
"Clamsters"
We were camping up there, on the top of the cliffs.
Our Saturday hike, prompted by some nice locals,
lead us to a hundred year old paint pigment mine.
They laid a cobblestone path through the forest
to roll their carts on.
The "cobblestone" is made of wood.
And of course, fishing.
And of course, no luck.
But, "Fishing on the St. Croix"
does sound pretty romantic, right?

Oh snap! This looks awesome. I've never heard of the place before, but it looks great. That paint pigment thing looks cool. You guys are fun.
ReplyDeleteYAY! You are alive!! Looks like a fun camp out!
ReplyDeleteoh my! This place looks enchanting! I want to go there some day. And a paint pigment factory in a forest? WHO KNEW!! I wish there was more story to that place! It looks like you had so much fun! Thanks for sharing!! I love your adventures. I was facinated with your "clampsters" picture! SO COOL. (they are a bivalve in case you are wondering)-(just a little bio for ya!)
